Slovakia August 2012: Hyundai i30 #3, BMW 5 Series up to #8

New car sales in Slovakia are up a very robust 15% year-on-year in August to 5,948 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total a little more firmly into positive at 46,516 units, up 3% on 2011. The Skoda Octavia celebrates 12 consecutive months atop the models ranking with 568 sales and 9.5%, its lowest share in the country since last March. The Skoda Fabia ranks at its traditional 2nd spot, albeit with a relatively weak 381 units and 6.4%.
Produced in Nošovice in neighbouring Czech Republic, the Hyundai i30 enjoys its 5th consecutive month in third position thanks to 223 sales and 3.7%, its second best market share ever in the country just below the 3.8% it reached last May. It is now #3 year-to-date as well with 1,266 units and 2.7%, passing its twin the Kia Cee’d down to #10 this month. At #4 the Kia Rio is up 13 spots on July and hits 3.1% share, its highest ever in Slovakia, beating the 2.4% it hit last March.
The Kia Sportage at #5 makes it 3 members of the Hyundai/Kia Group in the Slovak Top 5 this month! BMW is the other brand having a great time in the country: it places the 5 Series at an unbelievable 8th spot with 117 sales and 2% share (+28 on July), the X6 at #20 with 71 units and 1.2% (+56), the X5 at #42 (+47) and the X3 at #48 (+15). Other great performers include the Honda CR-V at #14, the Peugeot 208 at #18, the Nissan Juke at #26 and the Hyundai i40 at #36.
