Argentina August 2012: Ford Ranger up to #5, beats Toyota Hilux

New car sales in Argentina are down for the 5th time this year at -7% to 72,872 registrations. The year-to-date total is however still at a record 594,576 units, up 2% on 2011. The Chevrolet Classic stays on top with 3,330 sales and 4.6%, reinforcing its 2012 year-to-date leadership at 30,373 units and 5.1%, but the rest of the Top 5 is completely reshuffled compared to last month. The Peugeot 207 Compact is up 2 spots to #2 with 2,726 sales and 3.7%, followed by the VW Gol Trend at 2,644 units and 3.6% and the VW Gol Power with 2,275 sales and 3.1%.

The big event in Argentina this month is the fantastic 5th position of the Ford Ranger, boosted by the new generation and up 15 ranks on July, with 2,026 units sold for a shiny 2.8% market share. This means that for the very first time ever in Argentina the Ranger passes the Toyota Hilux, #7 with 1,925 sales and 2.6% this month. Other great performers in the Top 10 include the Ford Focus II up 4 spots to #9 and the Peugeot Partner up 9 to #10.

Further down, notice the Peugeot 308 stable at its highest level in the country (#15), the Honda Fit up 14 ranks to #28, the Fiat Fiorino Qubo up 27 to #29 and the Fiat 500 up 2 to a best-ever #34.
