Romania July 2012: The usual suspects on top

The Dacia Logan celebrates its 95th consecutive month in the Romanian pole position.

New car sales are starting to get really shaky in Romania, down 29% year-on-year in July to just 6,005 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 39,348 units, now in negative at -2% over 2011. Even though the market is getting thinner, the top of the models ranking is pretty stable: the Top 4 best-sellers are unchanged since May: the Dacia Logan is #1 at 16.2% share, ahead of the Skoda Octavia at 6.1%, the Dacia Duster at 5.7% and the Renault Symbol at 3%.

The Ford Focus and VW Golf follow, while both the Opel Astra and the VW Passat are up 4 spots to #7 and #8 respectively. I have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find any exciting movements in Romania this month: the VW Polo is up 12 ranks to #11, the Opel Corsa up 12 to #19, the Hyundai i30 up 8 to #22, the VW Up! up 11 to #24. Perhaps the most interesting move is the Range Rover Evoque back inside the Romanian Top 50 in a big way, up to a best-ever #31 with 49 sales and 0.8% share. Finally, notice the Dacia Lodgy down 9 ranks on its introduction month to #46 at 33 units.
