USA April 2011: Chevrolet Cruze in Top 10 for the first time

Another strong month in the USA with sales up 18% at 1,157,928 units. The year-to-date figure is up 20% at 4,218,067 units (the detail is here). While the Ford F-Series keeps the lead at 45,435 sales (+11%), the Toyota Camry jumps up to 2nd place for the first time since July last year thanks to 30,443 deliveries (+5%), ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado at 29,342 (-1%).
This month’s event is the landing of the Chevrolet Cruze within the Top 10 best selling cars in the USA for the very first time. The Cruze reaches a brilliant 6th place with 25,160 sales, a 36% improvement on its previous volume record from last February, and ranking #2 in its category just below the Honda Civic. It is followed by the Chevrolet Malibu, up 49% year-on-year.
Hyundai has another record month and places two models in the Top 10 and above 20,000 sales (a first): the new gen Elantra at #9 (+129%) and the Sonata at #10 (+17%). Other great performers include the Ford Explorer at #21 (+138%), Kia Soul at #29 (+100%) and Jeep Grand Cherokee at #31 (+189%). The Chrysler 200 makes its very first appearance in the Top 50 at #47 with 8,274 units.
