Turkey 2001: Renault Megane snaps top spot in devastated market (-70.3%)
The Renault Megane is the most popular vehicle in Turkey in 2001.
The Turkish new light vehicle market crashes and burns in 2001 at -70.3% year-on-year to just 184,047 units. The Top 3 carmakers fall slightly slower than the market. Renault is off -68.4% to 21.2% share, followed by Fiat (-52.3%) up three spots to #2 and Ford (-67.5%) down one to #3. Opel (-80.4%) and VW (-80.6%) collapse and round out the Top 5. Peugeot (-58.4%) and Tofas (+51.5%) both advance one rank to #6 and #7 respectively. Mitsubishi (-65%) is up five spots to #11 and Mercedes (-65.6%) up four to #16.
Model-wise, the Renault Megane (-58.8%) takes the lead with 7.8% share, up three spots on 2000. The Ford Transit (-61.5%) is back up one rank to #2 while the Fiat Palio (-61.2%) is up four to #4. The locally produced Fiat Doblo (+773.4%) ends its first full year of sales at a remarkable 4th place with 5.9% share. Leader last year, the Renault Clio (-79.2%) falls to #5, just above the Tofas Sahin (-17%) in surprising good shape and up 11 spots on 2000 to #6.
