Russia 2000: Riva, Samara, 2110: podium 100% Lada, IZH up 83% to #4

The facelifted Oda lifts IZH up 83% to 4th place in the Russian brands ranking in 2000.

New light vehicle sales edge down 1.8% year-on-year in 2000 in Russia but remain above the symbolic annual million mark at 1.084.603. Russian marques hold their ground at 93.5% share while foreign brands are at 4.6% share (1.9% are unidentified). Market leader Lada falls slightly faster than the market at -4% but still hold a mammoth 61.6% share, distancing GAZ (+6%) at 21% and UAZ (+5%) at 7.7% while IZH (+83%) surges to #4, replacing Moskvich (-82%). Daewoo (-26%) remains the most popular foreigner at #5 despite a steep fall, while Mitsubishi soars 84% to #7, eclipsing Volkswagen (-7%) and Skoda (+69%). Ukrainian carmaker ZAZ leaps up from #32 last year right into the Top 10.

The Lada Riva (-18%) remains by far the best-selling nameplate in the country at 22.3% share but falls hard, followed like in 1999 by the Lada Samara (-2%) at 16.8% while the Lada 2110 (+21%) climbs onto the podium, deposing the GAZ Volga 3110 (+14%) just as the GAZ Gazelle (-6%), Lada Niva (+4%), Lada Oka (+19%) and UAZ Hunter (+4%) close up the Top 8. There are no foreigners in the Top 13, with the Daewoo Nexia repeating as the best-seller at #14 (+18%) ahead of the Skoda Octavia at #17 (+71%), VW Passat at #19 (+9%) and Mitsubishi Carisma at #20 (+293%).
