Ireland 1998: Fiat Punto dominates, Toyota #1 brand
The Fiat Punto is the best-selling vehicle in Ireland in 1998.
It’s a 5th consecutive year in positive for the Irish new car market in 1998 at +6.6% to 145.715 registrations. This year it’s Toyota (+23.5%) that spectacularly takes the lead of the brands ranking at 11.5% share, but it was close as both Ford (-7.3%) and Opel (+4.1%) hole 11.2% of the Irish market. Renault (+10.5%), Rover (+9.7%) and Fiat (+7.6%) also outpace the market. In the models ranking, originally launched in early 1994 in Ireland the first generation Fiat Punto had to wait until its last year in 1998 to reach the first place of the Irish models ranking, outselling the Toyota Corolla and Ford Fiesta.
