Thailand 1990-1991: Toyota Hilux leads, Nissan up to #2

Nissan is #2 in Thailand in 1991 with 22.2% share (1989 Big M above).

260.969 new vehicles found a buyer in Thailand in 1990. Toyota (30.1%) leads the brands ranking ahead of Isuzu (20.5%), Nissan (19.7%), Mitsubishi (12.2%) and Mazda (7.4%). The models ranking makes us discover that Thailand has been a pickup fanatic ever since they started being manufactured locally in the early 1970s: the Toyota Hilux (19.6%) dominates above the Isuzu Faster/Rodeo (18.4%), Nissan Big M (15.3%), Mitsubishi L200 (8.9%) and Mazda Fighter (4.6%): that’s a full Top 5 made of just pickups and adding up to 66.8% share. The Toyota Corolla is the best-selling car at #6 and 4.5% share.

The Isuzu Faster Z ranks #2 model each year.

In 1991, the market is down -5.4% to 246.933 units. Toyota (-2.7%) remains in the lead at 30.9% share but Nissan (+6.3%) overtakes Isuzu (-7.3%) to #2 while Mitsubishi (-3.6%), Mazda (-33.5%) and Honda (-8.9%) camp on their 1990 ranking. Model-wise, the Top 4 is unchanged with the Toyota Hilux (-9.3%), Isuzu Faster/Rodeo (-5.7%), Nissan Big M (-1.2%) and Mitsubishi L200 (+2.8%) in the lead. The Toyota Corolla (+5.7%) and Corona (+3.3%) advance to #5 and #6 respectively.
