France 1970: Peugeot 204 and Renault 6 best-sellers

Second straight win for the Peugeot 204

1,212,381 new French vehicles were delivered in France in 1970 (including commercial vehicles), a -3.6% year-on-year drop. PC and LCV are down -3.1% to 1,133,548. Renault (+1.5%) takes off to 39.2% share in first place of the brands charts. Peugeot (+8%) overtakes Citroen (-17.6%) to snap up the 2nd spot with 25.5% share vs. 22.7% in 1969. Simca becomes Chrysler France and drops -10.2% to 10.5% share.

The Renault 6 is up to 2nd place in 1970.

Model-wise, the Peugeot 204 (-26.8%) repeats at #1 despite a ghastly year-on-year fall, reaching a round 10% share vs. 13.3% in 1969. The Renault 6 (-17.8%) and Renault 4 (-14.7%) are both up one spot on last year to #2 and #3 respectively. The Renault 12 (+692.2%) ends up its first full year in market at a splendid 4th place while the Peugeot 304 (+870.1%) does the same at #6. Meanwhile the Renault 16 (-7.1%) stays at #5. Notice also the Citroen ID-DS up 27.4% to #10. The Citroen SM enters the charts at #29.
