Estonia: 1970-2013 Historical info now available!

February 25th, 2014 No comments

The Lada 2106 may have topped the Estonian sales charts in the eighties.

Historical info spanning the past five decades is now available for Estonia on BSCB! For the 1970-1991 period, the data is for USSR which Estonia belonged to then, and Lada models reigned supreme. From 2005 onwards we have specific data for Estonia, and there is no trace of Russian models anymore! With a small market come very volatile sales charts, with only two models able to remain in pole position for two consecutive years: the Toyota Corolla in 2005 and 2006 and the Renault Megane in 2009 and 2010. The Honda CR-V topped the ranking twice over the period: in 2007 and 2013. All other winners did so only once: the Mazda6 in 2008, Skoda Octavia in 2011 and Toyota Avensis in 2012.

Estonia Historical info:

USSR 1970-1979: Lada 2101-3 conquers the Soviet roads

USSR 1980-1986: Lada 2106 and Moskvich 2140 likely leaders

USSR 1987: Lada 2106 and Moskvich 2140 fight it off

USSR 1988: Lada 2106 leads, Samara on podium

USSR 1989-1991: VAZ (Lada) and Izh most popular brands

Estonia 2005-2006: Toyota Corolla in control

Estonia 2007: Honda CR-V and Civic new best-sellers

Estonia 2008: Mazda6 in command

Estonia 2009: Renault Megane takes the lead

Estonia 2010: Renault Megane best-seller again

Estonia 2011: Skoda Octavia and Nissan Qashqai dominate

Estonia 2012: Toyota Avensis takes the lead

New car sales in Estonia are down 5% year-on-year in January to 1,622 registrations. It’s bumper month for Toyota, leading the brands ranking as usual but with a particularly high 17.3% market share thanks to 280 sales. That’s more than the #2, Skoda at 129 units and 8%, and #3, Volkswagen at 128 and 7.9%, put together! In fact, behind the Honda CR-V once again in pole position of the models ranking with 100 sales and 6.2% and the Skoda Octavia at 68 units and 4.2%, Toyota places 3 models inside the Top 5 this month: the Auris and Avensis equal #3 with 65 sales and 4% and the Corolla shooting up to #5 and 55 units vs. #33 over the FY2013 thanks to the new generation now spreading in dealerships across the country. Notice also the Renault Captur up to #12 vs. #45 in 2013, the Peugeot 3008 up to #14 vs. #59, Ford Tourneo Custom up to #18, Jeep Grand Cherokee up to #19 vs. #43, Mazda3 up to #23 and Porsche Cayenne up to #30.
