Netherlands September 2017: Volkswagen up 29% in market up 7.9%

The Dutch new car market is up 7.9% year-on-year in September to 35.964 units, leading the year-to-date total to 323.797 registrations, up 13.6% on the same period a year ago. Market leader Volkswagen frankly outpaces the general growth at +29% to 10.7% share, followed by Opel at 10.4% (-8%) while the next five best-selling carmakers post double-digit gains: Renault (+14%), Peugeot (+17%), Kia (+19%), Toyota (+34%) and Skoda (+23%). Outside the Top 10, Hyundai (+21%), Land Rover (+24%), Suzuki (+82%), Alfa Romeo (+97%) and Smart (+112%) shine. Both the September and YTD models ranking are completely reshuffled this month in the Netherlands. The VW Golf is up 41% year-on-year and 12 spots on August to snap the #1 rank, distancing the Opel Karl up 23% and now also #2 YTD, the Renault Clio up 24% and holding onto its #1 YTD spot, the VW Up up 145% and now #3 YTD and the Peugeot 108 up 1%. The Kia Picanto (+19%) is the only other Top 10 model to post a double-digit gain. The VW Polo, down 42% to #28 in September, falls from #2 to #7 YTD in the space of one month. Notice also the Skoda Octavia up 35%, the Toyota Yaris up 43%, the Peugeot 3008 up 940% and the BMW 5 Series up 211%. The Opel Crossland X (#29) lead recent launches above the Toyota C-HR (#45) and Suzuki Ignis (#46).
