It’s a difficult year for new car sales in the UAE: down 23% to 319.878 registrations vs. a 415.897 amended total in 2015. Toyota is in line with the market at -25% to 95.064 and sees its share slide below the symbolic 30% at 29.7% for the year. In second place, Nissan’s share is unchanged at 15.2% with deliveries down 23%. Mitsubishi on the other hand takes a hit at -46% to drop from 13.3% in 2015 to 9.4% now but remains in third place. In fact, the entire Top 10 brands ranking is identical to 2015. BMW gains 5% to jump from 4.6% share to 6.3% at #4, ahead of Hyundai (-14%), Ford (-24%) and Kia (-11%).

The Nissan Patrol gains 3 spots to land in 2nd place in 2016.

Lexus skids just 1% to improve from 2.5% to 3.3% share, while outside the Top 10 Hino (+2%), Bentley (+6%), Ram (+6%), Renault (+9%), Maserati (+14%), Jaguar (+15%), McLaren (+45%) and Ferrari (+68%) are some of the rare carmakers to register a sales hike this year, while Chinese Geely (+129%) and MG (+189%) take off. Finally, notice the arrival of Datsun with 3 mi-DO registered in December.

The BMW X5 breaks into the UAE Top 10…

We have a new leader in the UAE models charts for 2016: thanks to deliveries down just 2%, the Toyota Land Cruiser leaps from third to first place for the first time this decade in the UAE at 18.328 units, a comfortable distance over its closest follower – and direct competitor – the Nissan Patrol, down 7% but up three ranks to #2 overall. The Toyota Hilux drops 27% and one rank to #3, ahead of the Mitsubishi Pajero (-30%) and Lancer EX (-59%), freak leader last year.

…while the 7 Series is up 198% to break into the Top 30.

The Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup gains 4 spots to #7 and the BMW X5 breaks into the Top 10 at #9. Notice also the Nissan X-Trail up 24% to #18, the BMW 7 Series up 3-fold (!) to #28 thanks to the enw generation, the BMW X4 up 60% to #34 and the Renault Symbol up 179% to #38. The Hyundai Creta is the most popular all-new nameplate at #35, followed by the Lexus NX (#85), Renault Captur (#12( and Bentley Bentayga (#141)
