Colombia Full Year 2016: Renault keeps strong momentum, places Sandero #1

The Colombian new car market suffers a second consecutive year of double-digit decline in 2016 at -10.5% to 253.698 registrations. Market leader Chevrolet follows the market at -11% to 60.089 deliveries with a stable 23.7% market share, but direct follower Renault once again improves leaps and bounds: from 15.5% share in 2014 to 17.3% in 2015 to 20.1% this year thanks to sales up 4% to 50.944. Kia (-7%) and Nissan (-10%) remain at #3 and #4 respectively while Mazda gains a splendid 15% to climb up to 5th place overall. Hyundai implodes 66% from #5 to #10 and outside the Top 10 Hino (+13%), JAC (+6%), Subaru (+11%), Changan (+48%), Peugeot (+28%) and Brilliance (+24%) are among the rare manufacturers managing year-on-year gains.

Model-wise, illustrating the French carmaker’s strong momentum in Colombia, the Renault Sandero takes the annual lead for the first time since 2012 thanks to sales up 15% to 18.961 including 7.345 for the Stepway crossover-looking variant. The Sandero is the only Renault to have managed an annual pole position in Colombia in the past 30 years. The Chevrolet Spark lands at #2 with 6.8% share ahead of last year’s leader, the Chevrolet Sail down 14% to 6.1% of the market. The Duster (+4%) and Logan (+9%) make it three Renaults inside the 2016 Tp 5, note the Duster Oroch pickup variant is included in Duster sales are accounts for more than 2.200 units. The Kia Picanto surges 76% to #6, the Mazda3 is up a market-beating 21% to #7, the Chevrolet Tracker remains the best-selling SUV in the country, the Kia Rio is up 20% to #9 and the Nissan Frontier soars to #14, becoming the most popular pickup in Colombia.
