The Czech new car market is boosted by re-exports to levels never explored before this year: May marks another all-time record at 21.315 registrations, up 17% year-on-year and beating the previous best of 21.155 established last March. Halfway through 2015 sales add up to a record 113.377 units, up 21% on 2014. Skoda remains above 30% share thanks to 6.751 units sold and 31.7% above Volkswagen at 9.1%, Ford at 8.1% and Hyundai at 7%. Opel overtakes Dacia to rank 5th, Kia is up one spot to #7 and BMW brilliantly surges to #8 overall. But the big news this month is the Skoda Fabia stopping just 35 sales short off a historical pole position, selling 2.101 units for a 9.9% market share – over one percentage point above May – vs. 2.136 for the Octavia. If logic prevails, the Fabia should overtake its larger counterpart in the coming month. Finishing 2015 in the lead will be a harder task, one that the Fabia hasn’t achieved since 2008.
