Italy February 2014: Fiat Panda hits highest share in one year

The Italian new car market enjoys a third consecutive month of year-on-year gain in February, up a splendid 8% to 119,117 registrations, which bring the year-to-date total to 238,223 units, up 6% on 2013. The entire Top 5 best-selling models are unchanged vs. January, led by the Fiat Panda at 9,963 sales and 8.4%, its strongest share since the 8.8% it reached exactly one year ago in February 2013. The Fiat Punto follows at 5.2% ahead of the Lancia Ypsilon, Fiat 500L and Fiat 500. The VW Golf is up one spot to #6 and the VW Polo is up two to #7.

It’s below that we can witness more movement in the sales charts: the Peugeot 2008 loses the SUV crown to the Nissan Qashqai by dropping 3 spots on January to a still very impressive #16, the Audi A3 is up 5 ranks to #17, passing its archenemy the Mercedes A Class in the process, the Dacia Duster is back inside the Top 20 for the first time since June 2012, the Mini Countryman is up two spots to an excellent 22nd place, the Hyundai i10 up 7 to #23 thanks to the new model, the Toyota Aygo in runout mode and up 30 ranks to #25 and the Citroen C4 Picasso smoking hot at #34, up 12 spots on January.
