In December the Russian car market is back in positive territory for the first time since last February, up 4% year-on-year to 264,257 registrations, which brings the final 2013 total to 2,777,447 units, down 5% on 2012. If the Lada Granta and Hyundai Solaris hold onto their #1 and #2 respective spots, we have a newcomer on the podium, at least for the first time since last April: the Lada Kalina is at last feeling the effect of the new generation kicking in, up 4 spots on November and 41% year-on-year to #3 with 8,590 sales and 3.3% share.
The Renault Duster is solid once again at #4 and 3%, the Ford Focus is up 4 ranks to #5 but down 23% on December 2012, and the Nissan Qashqai suddenly reaches new heights in the country, breaking its ranking, volume and share records for the 2nd consecutive month at #8 with 6,435 sales and 2.4%. Notice also the Chevrolet Niva up 3 spots to #9, the Opel Astra up 6 ranks to #12 and the Toyota Corolla up 41% year-on-year to #18. In the brands ranking, the biggest gainers in the Top 30 this month are Lifan up 74% to #20, Geely and Nissan both up 50% to #22 and #4 respectively, Mazda up 48% to #16 and Honda up 47% to #21.
