Thanks to SMMT, I can share with you once again the detailed models ranking for each nation in the UK, all in one update. Keep in mind this is a zoom in into each nation, all figures are already included in the UK overall update. If the UK average is a splendid 12% year-on-year gain in September, Scotland (+14%) and Wales (+19%) do even better, with England and Northern Ireland in line with the UK average.
The Vauxhall Corsa is back to #1 in Scotland
In Scotland, the Vauxhall Corsa brilliantly reclaims the top spot both this month with 2,997 sales and 7.2% vs. 3.7% nationally and year-to-date at 9,207 units and 5.6%, passing the Ford Fiesta in each case. It now looks like the Corsa has a chance to lodge a 6th consecutive year atop Scottish sales charts. It’s a good month for Vauxhall in Scotland: while the Astra is down to #5 in the UK, it is up to #3 here at 3.8% share vs. 2.7% nationally. The Fiat 500 is up to #6 and 2.4% share, its highest of all nations this month, while the Renault Clio is back inside the Scottish Top 10 at #7 and the Peugeot 208 makes an appearance at #9.
The Suzuki Alto is back up to #7 in Wales.
In Wales, the Ford Fiesta nearly doubles its national market share at 9.5% and 8.7% year-to-date, with the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Corsa following like last month and year-to-date. The Nissan Qashqai remains at #6 and #5 year-to-date, while the Suzuki Alto makes a fantastic come-back inside the Top 10 (given September sales are more skewed towards private sales) at #7 and 1.9% vs. #8 and 1.7% year-to-date. Notice also the Toyota Yaris back up to #10 like year-to-date.
The Vauxhall Zafira is up to #5 in Northern Ireland
In Northern Ireland, just below the Ford Fiesta and Focus very close this month the VW Golf continues to over-perform which is interesting given it is #1 in neighbouring Ireland. It captures 4% of the market here vs. 3% nationally and ranks #3 year-to-date vs. #5 in the UK. The Vauxhall Zafira is up 5 spots to a splendid 5th place with 161 sales and 2.7% while the Seat Ibiza is up from outside the Top 10 in August to an equally impressive 7th position at 146 units and 2.4%. Notice also the Renault Clio up to #10 and 2%.
The BMW 1 Series does even better in England than nationally
In England, for once the ranking is actually different than the overall UK one. The Ford Focus is up to #2 with 11,837 sales and 3.5% vs. #3 nationally, passing the Vauxhall Corsa, the VW Golf’s advantage over the Vauxhall Astra this month means it also passes it year-to-date to rank #4, but most interestingly, while the BMW 1 Series smashes all records nationally, it does even better in England, breaking into the Top 5 at #5 with 9,011 sales and 2.7% and above the Vauxhall Astra…
