Thanks to SMMT, I can share with you once again the detailed models ranking for each nation in the UK. This month I have compiled all nations into one singe update so it’s easier to compare them all. Keep in mind this is a zoom in into each nation, all figures are already included in the UK overall update. Compared to the UK average of 11% gain year-on-year this month, Scotland is up just 4%, but both Northern Ireland (+18%) and Wales (+16%) easily outperform England (+11%) which logically stands at the same level as the the UK average.

In Scotland, below the Ford Fiesta, the Vauxhall Corsa continues to overperform at #2 and 4% share vs. #5 and 3.3% overall, year-to-date the Corsa is even higher at 5% thanks to 6,210 sales. The hero of the month is without a doubt the BMW 1 Series, going from outside the Scottish Top 10 in July directly onto third position at 223 units and 3.7% vs. #6 and 2.9% overall in the UK. The 1 Series now appears inside the year-to-date Top 10 in Scotland at #10 with 1.6% share. The Kia Sportage is #9 for the 2nd time in a row while the Hyundai i10 appears at #10 with 123 sales and 2.1%.

In Northern Ireland, the top 2 best-sellers continue to impress both vs. the local year-to-date ranking and the UK overall: it’s the only nation where the Vauxhall Astra manages to top the sales charts thanks to 192 units and 4.9% vs. an already stunning #2 spot in the UK at 3.7%. Similarly, the VW Golf shines at #2 and 4% locally vs. an already solid #3 and 3.4% in the UK. Year-to-date however, the Ford Fiesta and Focus still dominate in Northern Ireland. Further down, the VW Polo is back up to #5 while the Nissan Juke delivers its best ranking in any nation in the UK this month at #6 thanks to an excellent 2.8% market share. Finally, notice the Vauxhall Zafira inside the Top 10 again at #10.

In Wales, paradoxically the smallest market has the most stable models ranking top. As in year-to-date both in Wales and the UK overall, the Ford Fiesta, Focus, Vauxhall Corsa and Astra are the most popular here. The Vauxhall Zafira maintains itself at a brilliant 5th spot thanks to 55 sales and 2.5% share while the Ford C-Max gains a further two ranks on July to rank #7 at 2.3% share. Lastly, the Fiat 500 appears inside the Top 10 at #10 with 2% share, making Wales the only nation in the UK to welcome the tiny Fiat among its 10 best-sellers this month.

In England, as usual not much wildness in the models ranking as this market represents over 80% of the overall UK total. In fact this month and year-to-date, the English sales charts are absolutely identical to the UK ones. Notice just the VW Golf (3.5% vs. 3.4%), Nissan Qashqai (2.9% vs. 2.8%), BMW 3 Series (2.5% vs. 2.3%) and Vauxhall Insignia (2% vs. 1.7%) delivering higher market shares.
