The Czech new car market is down a harsh 12% year-on-year in August to 11,595 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 106,946 units, down 10% on 2012. Below the Skoda Octavia back above 10% share for the first time in 4 months at 10.2% (and a round 10% year-to-date), the Skoda Rapid confirms the #2 spot it hit for the first time at home last month thanks to 838 sales and 7.2% share, very close to the 7.3% it held in July. For its part the Skoda Fabia is stuck at 5.2%, the nameplate’s lowest ever share here. Compared to August 2012, Skoda goes from 27.1% to 29.6% share, which could infer the Rapid may not be a total cannibal after all. Let’s continue to monitor this over the next few months because this month’s results may have been biased by a particularly weak month for the Fabia one year ago.
The VW Golf remains the most popular import at #4 with 347 sales and 3% while Hyundai places 3 models inside the Czech Top 7 in August like year-to-date and like Skoda! The i30 is #5 at 2.8% followed by the ix20 at 2.7% and the i20 at 2.5%. The Kia Cee’d is up 2 spots on July to #8, the Seat Ibiza up 3 to #10, the Leon up a further 7 to a fantastic #12 contrasting with the #142 spot it held over the Full Year 2012! Further down, notice the Renault Megane up 7 to #21, Ford B-Max up 12 to #23, Renault Clio up 16 to #27, Dacia Dokker up 55 to break into the Czech Top 50 for the first time at #41 and the Kia Carens up 30 to #51.
