After one month off due to the unrest in the country, Egypt is back on BSCB for June figures, up 17% year-on-year to 16,002 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 102,452 units, up 15% on 2012. If the Chevrolet TFR Single Cab pick-up (a previous gen Isuzu D-Max) and the Hyundai Verna from 2 generations ago still dominate the ranking in this order, the big surprise is on the third step of the podium: Chinese model Geely Emgrand EC7 manages to rank #3 both in May with 1,052 sales and 5.7% and in June at 1,000 units and 6.2%! It now ranks #6 year-to-date with 3,747 sales and 1.7%.
The Renault Sandero (still the old generation) is up 8 spots on May to #4 at 888 units and 5.5% share and now #10 year-to-date vs. #23 in 2012 while the new generation Hyundai Elantra continues to climb back the ranking at #5, as does the Toyota Corolla at #6. The Golden Dragon Haice gets a boost at #9, its 6th time inside the Egyptian Top 10 in the last 11 months. The new gen Kia Rio is up 10 ranks to #12, the all-new Cerato up 11 to #16, all-new Carens up one to #17 and the Brilliance V5 is up 15 to #18.
Among recent launches, we welcome the Peugeot 301 at #23 with 210 sales and 1.3% after ranking #24 in May, the Speranza Envy (aka Chery E5) is stable at #25, the Geely Pandino lands at #26 with 182 units and 1.1% and the Citroen C-Elysee appears at #55 with 35 sales.
