Egypt Full Year 2012: Hyundai Elantra snaps up podium ranking

In 2012 Egyptian new car sales recover from a year 2011 disrupted by the Spring revolution. The market is up 13% to get back above the 200,000 annual sales mark at 200,252. The Hyundai Verna, an Accent from two generations ago mainly used as a taxi, keeps the pole position for the third consecutive year and even manages to improve its market share once again to 10.6% thanks to sales up 20% to 21,277. The Chevrolet TFR Single Cab Pick-up, a previous gen Isuzu D-Max nicknamed ‘El Dabbabah’ – the tank in Egypt, remains the 2nd most popular vehicle in the country at 18,530 units and 9.3%, up a fantastic 34% year-on-year. In fact the two models above shared the monthly #1 ranking all through 2012 (Verna 8 times, TFR 3 times) until December when the Renault Logan dominated.

The Golden Dragon Haice is the best-performing all-new model in Egypt in 2012.

The new generation Hyundai Elantra slips into the podium this year with 11,087 sales and 5.5%, up 30% on 2011, kicking the Chevrolet Lanos down to #4 at 10,878 units and 5.4%, up just 4%. Other great performers this year in Egypt include the Chevrolet Aveo up 38% to #5, Renault Logan up 44% to #6 and #1 in December, Mitsubishi Lancer up 103% to #9, Toyota Corolla up 53% to #12 and the Golden Dragon Haice landing directly at #15 and ranking within the Top 10 for 3 of the last 5 months of the year.

The Rio is one of 5 Kias ranking within the 21 most popular vehicles of 2012 in Egypt.

Kia has an extremely strong year:  the Carens is up 4% to #8, the Cerato up 43% to #10, the Sportage up 312% to #17, the new gen Rio lands directly at #18 and the new gen Picanto is up 225% to #21… Notice also the Renault Sandero up 189% to #23 and the Chevrolet N300, a rebadged Wuling Rongguang produced locally from April this year, is up to #30. Other newcomers for 2012 include the Peugeot 508 at #34, Brilliance V5 at #36, new gen VW Jetta at #37 and Opel Astra at #46.
