First 2013 figures are now available for France thanks to Auto Plus. Over the first 3 weeks of the month, the market is down a worrying 16% year-on-year to 66,036 registrations. Brand-wise, Peugeot is in the lead with 15.8% share but drops 19% year-on-year whereas Renault is up 15% to #2 at 9,780 sales and 14.8%, only 33 units above Citroen at -18%. The Peugeot 208 keeps the lead at 3,783 units and 5.7%, a comfortable margin above its archenemy the Renault Clio IV at 2,822 sales and 4.3%.
But the best performance over the period is without a doubt delivered by the Dacia Sandero. Now that the new generation is in full flight, the French-Romanian low-cost model is up to a fantastic 4th place thanks to 2,442 units sold and 3.7% share, up 31% year-on-year. If the Sandero keeps this ranking up until the end of the month, it will be its second highest ever below the #2 spot it hit in March 2010. There are two foreigners in the Top 6: the usual VW Polo and Golf, however down 39% and 38% respectively on a huge start of 2012.

@oli
I agree, Dacias are great value for money and have been well received by the British motoring press, it will be interesting to see how they sell, now that they are available here.
@coolcat
Three stars today is the equivalent of five stars only four years ago, Dacias are safe cars, i would get obsessed by safety ratings
I’m not french , but I prefer their cars specially the Peugeots…,over the Ford ,VW , Hyundai , Fiat etc. If the PSA is on a 2° place in europe behinde the VAG , I don’t think only because of the french people who buy french cars…
In my opinion the 508 RXH or RCZ or 208 are simply a great cars , have a cool , modern design , great engines and are reliable..
@sandu
No you are wrong in all sense!
-French are not nationalistic when it comes to buying cars.
-French cars are now the safest in the word.
-French cars are known for stability since the begining of the automobile history especially with their pioneering front wheel drive technology.
-French cars, expecially Peugeot is now above the VW in terms of reliability.
the french and their nationalism…”if a car is not good, with big problems in fiability, stability, and safety, we bought it, because its ours, its french! “
If Renault hadn’t bought Dacia, there’s no way it would be in any top 10, other than romania. The safety of the cars is despicable – 3 stars for the new dokker…….not good.
i have already seen about 20-25 new Sandero’s in France and 2 new Sandero Stepways, i also see more and more Dokker’s, i also noticed the growing numbers of the CLS Shootingbrake, & the new 3er Touring on road in France.
