Another catastrophic month for new car sales in Romania: December is down 37% year-on-year to 4,828 registrations, bringing the Full Year 2012 total to 66,436 units, down 19% on 2011. The Dacia Logan celebrates its 100th consecutive month atop the Romanian models ranking: no interruption since the launch of the nameplate in September 2004 when it grabbed a mammoth 33% market share. This month it is at a much more reasonable 16.5% thanks to 795 sales, followed by the Dacia Duster at 283 units and 5.9%, hitting #2 for the first time since last March, and the Skoda Octavia at 209 sales and 4.3%.

Dacia Lodgy

Until this month there was a question mark around the sales potential of the Dacia Lodgy and Dokker at home in Romania as these formats have traditionally been met with mild success in the country. Not so anymore: the Lodgy is up 17 spots on November to rank at a world-best #7 with 109 sales and 2.3% (beating the #10 spot it reached in France last August) while the Dokker is up 29 ranks to #27 at 44 units and 0.9%, also its best ranking in the world so far.

Other great performers in December in Romania include the VW Passat up 14 spots to #4, the Hyundai ix35 at #11 vs. #20 in the Full Year, the Kia Sportage up 17 to #12, BMW X5 up 24 to #19, BMW X1 up 33 to #20, Fiat Qubo up 25 to #22 and Fiat Panda up 54 to #44. Among recent launches, notice the Skoda Rapid up to #53, the Peugeot 301 up 25 ranks to #70 and the Opel Mokka at #80.
