As predicted at the end of last month, the PIVE plan has not saved the new car market in Spain, with December down a horrendous 23% year-on-year to 51,197 registrations, bringing the Full Year 2012 total just under 700,000 units for the first time in at least 25 years at 699,589, down 13% on 2011. If the PIVE plan hasn’t managed to reverse new car sales back into positive, it at least had a significant effect on the models ranking this month. The Peugeot 208 takes the lead of Spanish sales for the first time ever with a beautiful 2,115 sales and 4.1%, up 8 spots on November and making Spain the 4th country to have crowned the 208 in a monthly ranking so far after Portugal, France and Croatia. The 208 finishes 2012 at #20.

Dacia Sandero

Leader last month, the Nissan Qashqai is down to a still amazing 2nd spot and even improves its market share to 3.5% at 1,808 sales. Down to a ridiculously low 4,700€ and by far the cheapest new car currently on sale in Spain thanks to the PIVE plan, the Dacia Sandero is up a huge 22 ranks to a best-ever third position in Spain this month with 1,675 units and 3.3%, and is followed by the Renault Clio helped by the 4th generation and back up 8 spots to #4 after leading the market in October. This is potentially the highest ever ranking reached by a Dacia model in Spain, and 2013 may bring more records…

    Une top 3 formidable!
And where we see the 208, its ‘arch enemy’ is not far – the Clio IV at #4

The seat Mii is worst in all respects than the “cousins” Aygo, 107 and C1!!!

The Mii is popular in Germany and Denmark and was in 17th position in Ireland in November, but it is not the most attractive car and why diid they choose such a siilly name? Sticking with “Arosa” would have given it much more appeal IMO. Someone deserves to be scaked for the signing off the design and the siilly name.

Sorry the Mii is 7th in Spain. ;)

Well in Spain the Mii is YTD 2012 6th in the segment minicars behind Fiat 500, Fiat Panda, Chevrolet Nuevo Aveo, Hyundai i10, Toyota Aygo, Smart. Not very successful indeed.

But for example in Germany the Mii was 54th in november, not so bad. In 2013 the Mii might rank better in Europe because it’s new in the market.

Spanish buyers dislike A-segment cars : the first one is only #56 (Fiat 500), and then we have the Panda at #67, Hyundai i10 at #91 and the Seat Mii..

Thanks Matt for your site and a belated Happy New Year. The Seat Mii is not doing well on its home market, I can’t see the Up! or Citigo in the list, I am glad to see the Qashqai doing well.

The Seat Mii is a total flop!
