Argentina Full Year 2012: Chevy Classic #1, Renault Duster shines

After reaching an all-time record of 857,983 registrations in 2011, the Argentinean new car market is down just 2% in 2012 to 840,679 sales, its second best annual figure ever. The Chevrolet Classic is the best-selling model in the country for the third year in a row with 42,313 sales and 5% share, down 5% year-on-year. The Classic led the monthly ranking 11 months out of 12 this year, with the VW Gol Power accessing the pole positon in November only.

But it is the current generation Gol, the VW Gol Trend, that is up one spot to #2 in 2012 thanks to stable sales at 32,991 units and 3.9%, with the Peugeot 207 Compact down 14% to #3 and 30,451 sales and the VW Gol Power also stable at #4 and 29,734 units. The VW Suran is up 2 ranks to #5, the Renault Clio is up 8 and 32% to #6 and the Toyota Hilux is up one at 8% to #7. Excellent year for the Ford Ka up 29% to #9 and the Renault Kangoo up 14% to #10.

Further down, the Renault Duster is up 295% to #12 with 19,201 sales and 2.3% for its first full year in market, the Chevrolet Celta is up 56% to #13, the Toyota Corolla up 42% to #19, the Peugeot 308 launched in late 2011 is up to #24 and the Peugeot 408 up 56% to #25. Notice also the Fiat Qubo landing directly at #41, the Fiat 500 up to #47 and Chevrolet Sonic at #54. The Chery QQ is the most popular Chinese model in Argentina in 2012 at #63 (+56%) followed by the Chery Tiggo at #66 (+18%) and Chery Face at #92 (+6%).

    @Steam
    Demand in Brazil is so high that even with a factory in Argentina the dealerships end up with little stock as most of the production is sent to Brazil. Also, Fiat still has a bad reputation in Argentina.
