After exploring US November sales, as is now the tradition on BSCB we are going through the year-to-date rankings in a little more detail to try and extract longer term trends. Over the first 11 months of 2012 new car sales in the USA are up a very dynamic 14% on 2011 to 13,135,576 units, and it looks like the after-effects of superstorm Sandy could actually be positive, with December expected to be even more dynamic than the yearly progression to-date.
While the Ford F-Series continues to shine, lodging its 4th consecutive month above 50,000 sales in November and on its way to a 31st year in a row atop the US ranking, it looks like the Toyota Camry will finish 2012 in 2nd place overall for the first time it does so since 2009 and only the 2nd time ever, with an advantage of 5,866 units over the Chevrolet Silverado at end-November. Thanks to November sales up 83% year-on-year, the Honda Accord is now up 39% on 2011 year-to-date at #4 with 302,444 units while the Honda Civic benefits from a huge month (its all-time November record) to move up one spot to #5 year-to-date, passing the Nissan Altima.
The Dodge RAM, Honda CR-V and Ford Escape have now secured a spot in the Full Year 2012 Top 10 which wasn't the case for them in 2011... The strongest year-on-year growths within the Top 20 are delivered by the Toyota Prius up 45% at #18 but with the help of the Prius V variant, the Honda Civic up 42%, Honda Accord up 39%, Ford Focus up 38%, Toyota Camry up 36% and Toyota RAV4 up 33% with the new generation coming up very shortly...
Fiat 500 sales are up 138% so far in 2012. Take advantage of the Fiat 500 sale here.
In the Top 50, the VW Passat stays king at +543% and now up to #42, followed by the Kia Optima up 90% to #23, the Dodge Avenger up 55% to #46 and the Chrysler 200 up 50% to #31. The only all-new model for 2012 to rank within the US Top 100 is now the Mazda CX-5 at #95 with 37,363 sales while the Buick Verano is not technically all-new anymore given 4 units were sold in November 2011. It ranks #97 at 36,222 units. The biggest year-on-year gainers within these rankings are the Chevrolet Sonic up 650% to #53, the Fiat 500 up 130% to #88, the Subaru Impreza up 116% to #55, the Kia Rio up 111% to #93 and the Chrysler 300 up 104% to #64. Among the 16 all-new models to make their first appearance in this year's US ranking, notice the Toyota Prius C at #107 with 32,563 sales, the Dodge Dart at #140 and 19,198 units, the Infiniti JX35 at #141 with 18,966 sales, the Cadillac XTS at #164 and 12,110 units, the Scion FR-S at #175 with 9,922 sales and the Ford C-Max at #183 and 8,999 units.
