Ukraine September 2012: Lada Samara leads, Geely CK up to #4

19,725 new vehicles were sold in Ukraine in September, bringing the year-to-date total to 150,743. Once again the models ranking gets a complete overhaul and this time it’s the 19 year-old Lada Samara, sold as the VAZ 2113-15 locally, that holds the top spot in the country for the first time in 2012 thanks to 730 sales and 3.7% share. This is in fact only slightly above its 2012 year-to-date level where it is #2 with 3.6% of the market vs. 4% in 2011, but the Skoda Octavia has made it easier by falling from #1 and 3.8% in August to #6 and 2.6% this month…

Geely CK

In 2nd place we find the Hyundai Accent at 646 units and 3.3% compared to #3 and 3.4% year-to-date, ahead of the ZAZ Sens stable with 573 sales and 2.9%. World superstar in July thanks to its pole position here, the Geely CK had dropped to #6 last month but is now back to an excellent 4th place with 547 units and 2.8%, followed by the Kia Rio up an outstanding 7 spots on August to #5 at 543 sales and 2.8% also.

In fact, this month most Geely models are in frank progression over August. The Geely Emgrand EC7 is up 6 ranks to a record #14 with 299 units and 1.5%, beating the #15 spot it reached in July, the Geely MK is also up 6 to #19 with 239 sales and 1.2%, the Geely MK-2/Cross is up 26 to #55 and the Geely SL is up 16 to #69. Other great performers near the top of the ranking include the ZAZ Vida – a rebadged, locally produced previous generation Chevrolet Aveo – breaking into the Ukrainian Top 10 for the first time at #10 and 336 units, and the Ford Kuga up 26 spots to #20.

SsangYong Korando

Further down, notice the Honda CR-V in runout mode before the arrival of the new model at #23 vs. #39 year-to-date, the Ford Transit up a huge 72 ranks on August to #27, the SsangYong Korando up 12 to #35, the Lada Kalina up 16 to #40, the Skoda Superb up 38 to #48, the Renault Symbol up 44 to #78, the GAZ 2705 up 76 to #87, the Range Rover up 36 to #108 and the Citroen C4 Aircross up 14 to #200.

BYD S6

Apart from Geely, there are a few other Chinese brands present in Ukraine, but only Chery manages to place models in the Top 100 this month: the QQ at #80 and the Tiggo at #82 as the Beat is down 31 spots to #109. Launched on 26 October 2011 in Ukraine, BYD is gaining ground fast, with the F3 up 67 ranks this month to #103, the S6 breaking into the Top 200 for the first time at #177 and the F6 up 12 to #222. The MG6 climbs back into the Top 200 at #193 while the Lifan X60 makes its first appearance in it at #194.

Saipa Tiba

Finally, notice also the Saipa Tiba imported from Iran at 7 sales and 15 year-to-date, the first Saipa dealership in the country, located in Kiev, opened on 23 September (see above). In the meantime the Renault Twizy registered its very first Ukrainian sale this month.

    Chinese cars isn’t popular. trust me. Ranking tables biased or do not show the black market car sales. Geely is like exotic cars..
