Denmark June-July 2012: Toyota Aygo and VW Up! dominate

Bilimp.dk, the Danish website publishing new car sales figures, had a bit of a holiday last month and therefore released both June and July figures today. Two excellent months for the Danish market, up 14% year-on-year in June to 14,721 registrations and a massive 28% in July to 16,718, all this bringing back the year-to-date total to the same level as last year at 100,999 units, up 0.1% on 2011.

Toyota Aygo

Two models clearly stand out over the period: the VW Up! reiterates the huge feat it achieved last March and ranks #1 overall again in June with 1,052 sales and a record 7.1% market share, way above its 5.1% from March. The Up! confirms in July and ranks #2 at 1,045 units and 6.3%, which means it is now up to a magnificent 2nd place in the 2012 year-to-date ranking with 4,144 sales and 4.1% share.

Seat Mii

The other big performer is the Toyota Aygo: #2 in June at 778 units and 5.3% and #1 in July with 1,079 sales and 6.5%, it takes the lead overall year-to-date thanks to 4,316 unit and 4.3%. The Toyota Yaris is up 4 spots in July to #3 with 629 sales and 3.8%, ahead of the Toyota Avensis (+6), Citroen C1 (-1) and Kia Rio at #6 with 372 units and 2.2%. The Opel Corsa ranked #4 in June but is down to a dismal #29 in July while the Renault Scenic jumps to a very unusual #7.

In line with the success of the VW Up!, its two twins also deliver excellent performances in Denmark: the Seat Mii is up 17 spots in July to break into the Top 20 for the first time in any country in the world at #19 with 265 sales and 1.6%, much better than the 47th position it reached in Spain this month… The Skoda Citigo is up 7 ranks to #25 at 222 units and 1.3% compared with #16 and 1.6% in Czech Republic.
