Irish car sales are wobbly again in May at -18% year-on-year to 7,698 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 59,946 units, down 9% on 2011. For the first time since January, the Ford Focus is back in pole position with 463 sales and a shiny 6% market share. It also leads the 2012 year-to-date ranking at 2,893 units and 4.8%. Leader last month, the VW Golf is down to #2 in May with 366 sales and 4.8%, followed by the Nissan Qashqai at 306 units and 4%.

BMW 1 Series

Very strong month for the Renault Megane, up 6 spots on April to #4, the Ford Fiesta up 11 to #6, the Opel Insignia up 12 to #10, the Seat Ibiza up 6 to #18, the Hyundai i30 up 7 to #22, the BMW 3 Series up 2 to #26, the Kia Cee’d up 16 to #27, the BMW 1 Series up a huge 60 ranks to #28 and the Opel Zafira up 16 to #46. Notice also the very good hold of the Hyundai ix35 at #13, the Hyundai i40 at 17 and the Honda Civic at #24.

    Note, no Fiats in the top 50. Last month the Fiat 500 ws the 10th best selling car in neighbouring UK.
