Car sales in Brazil are down 2% year-on-year in March at 284,166 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 772,755 units, down 1% on 2011. For the third time after February and December 2011, the Fiat Uno passes the VW Gol to become the best-selling model in the country but this time its margin is very substantial: in February it was 481 units, in December just 32 and this month it is 2,079 at 23,109 sales and 8.1% vs. 21,030 and 7.4% for the Gol.

2007 Fiat Palio: the last time the Fiat Palio ranked above the VW Gol was in August 2007.

In the last 10 years, only two models have managed to dethrone the Gol in the Brazilian monthly rankings: the Fiat Palio in September 06, October 06 and August 07 and now the Uno has done it 3 times as well. Nissan March

Further down, the Renault Sandero equals the best position it also reached last September at #7, the Nissan March continues its irresistible progression, up 6 spots on last month to a best-ever 15th place, while the Chevrolet Cruze (#18), Fiat 500 (#32), Fiat Freemont (#40), Peugeot 308 (#84), Range Rover Evoque (#86) and Mitsubishi Lancer (#89) all deliver their best month-end ranking ever in Brazil. Newcomers this month are the Dodge RAM at #112 and JAC J5 at #143.
