After a 2 month hiatus, Vietnamese car sales are available again and it’s not a good look: down 21% year-on-year in March at 7,525 registrations and at a worrying -37% over the first 3 months of the year at 17,891 units. After losing the models pole position to the Kia Morning in 2011, Toyota has regained control, monopolising the March podium and the 2012 year-to-date Top 4. The Corolla rules this month with 450 sales and 6% share but it’s the new generation Fortuner, #2 in March at 5.7%, that leads in the year-to-date ranking at 1,250 units and 7%.
The Toyota Vios round up the podium at 5.3% in March and 5.6% year-to-date while the Innova, a former best-seller in Vietnam, is #4 in 2012 at 4.8% share. The Kia Morning is #4 in March, the Toyota Camry is up #7 and the Hilux is back in the Top 10 after ranking #16 over the Full Year 2011. An excellent month also for the new Chevrolet Aveo at #13 as well as the Kia Sorento at #20.
