Dutch car sales are down 7% year-on-year in March at 52,549 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 166,703 units, down 8% on 2011. For the third time in the last 13 months the Renault Twingo is the best-selling car in the Netherlands with 2,216 sales and 4.2%, ahead of last month’s winner the Peugeot 107 at 2,011 units and 3.8%. The Opel Corsa rounds up the podium at 3.6% while the VW Polo ranks #4 at 3.3% but leads the way in the 2012 year-to-date ranking with 6,517 sales and 3.9%.

Mazda CX-5

The big event this month is the arrival in the Top 10 of the VW Up! at #7, up a huge 29 spots on February with 1,249 units and 2.4%, making the Netherlands the first country in the world where the Up! broke into the Top 10. (Since the publication of this article, Danish figures have come through which show the Up! at #1). Dutch consumers are really keen on this year’s novelties: the Mazda CX-5 is up a massive 55 ranks to #18 this month with 695 sales and 1.3% share, by far Mazda’s best-seller in the country this month and its best ranking in the world so far.

Opel Ampera

The Opel Ampera is the third newcomer to do fantastically well this month in the Netherlands: it is up to #35 thanks to 428 units sold and here too this is the best ranking the model has achieved in any country in the world – with German rankings still pending but the Ampera will doubtfully beat #35 this month in its ‘native’ country…

Fisker Karma

The other two new models in the Top 100 this month are the Peugeot 208 at #94 with 134 sales and the Citroen DS5 at #96 with 127 units. Notice also the Fisker Karma selling 26 units.
