The Russian car market is up another 26% this month at 239,539 registrations and 41% year-to-date at 2,402,043 units. For the second month in a row, the Lada Samara leads the models ranking with 11,520 sales and 4.8% and is now #3 year-t0-date at 111,124 units and 4.6%, passing the Lada 2104-7 down to a paltry 10th place this month… The Lada Kalina comes 2nd with 10,316 sales and 4.3% and reinforces its 2011 year-to-date leadership at 131,716 units and 5.5%.
For the first time since its launch in February, the Hyundai Solaris climbs onto the Russian podium at #3 with 9,986 sales and 4.2% share, interestingly not its best-ever scores. Having a model from a foreign manufacturer within the podium in Russia is extremely rare: the last time it happened was when the Renault Logan ranked #3 in February 2010. In fact, only two models – the Ford Focus and Renault Logan – had managed that feat in the last 20 years!
Another foreign model produced locally that has been embraced by Russian consumers wholeheartedly is the new generation Kia Rio: for its 2nd month of sales in the country it ranks #6 with 7,477 sales and 3.1% share, the 3rd best-selling foreign model this month behind the Solaris and Focus and ahead of the Logan… Possibly another contender for the podium shortly…
Other great performers this month include the Chevrolet Niva up to #8, the VW Polo at #9 and +105% year-on-year, the Renault Sandero up 101% to #11, the Skoda Octavia up 124% to #13 and 1.8% and the Toyota RAV4 up 106% to #19.
