Renault Duster

Brazilian car sales are stable vs. 2010 over the first half of November at 160,251 registrations. The top of the ranking is pretty boring: the 9 best-selling models are exactly the same as in October, with the VW Gol leading the pack at 8.3% ahead of the Fiat Uno at 7.5% and the Chevrolet Celta at 4%. The Renault Sandero is strong again at #8 and 2.8% and the Chevrolet Agile hits its highest market share ever at 2.7% in 9th place.

It’s outside the Top 20 that the ranking gets shaken a bit! Only 2 months after its launch in the country, the Renault Duster leads its category: it is up 15 spots on October to #21 with 1,955 sales and 1.2% share, already beating the Ford Ecosport! This means Renault’s Top 3 best-sellers in Brazil are all Dacias originally (Sandero #8, Duster #21 and Logan #22) with the first ‘true’ Renault, the Clio, ranking only #37 this month…

Chevrolet Cobalt

Other excellent performers over the period include the Chevrolet Cruze, up 6 spots on October to #25 at 1,451 units and 0.9%, the Nissan March up 13 ranks to #36, the Hyundai Veloster strong again at #39, the Fiat 500 breaking into the Brazilian Top 50 for the very first time, up 20 spots to #44, the Hyundai Elantra up 18 ranks to #63 and the Fiat Freemont up 18 spots to #78.

A few new models make their first appearance in the Brazilian ranking: the Nissan Versa lands in 124th position with 117 sales over the period, the Hafei Start Pick-up is #149 at 61 units, the Range Rover Evoque sells 46 units and the Chevrolet Cobalt, an Agile sedan, is at 26 sales, most probably dealership models.

Cobalt isn’t a Agile sedan. they have similar styling but share nothing in terms of engineering or sheet metal. Agile rides on the Opel Corsa II platform (Chevy Corsa Classic) and the Cobalt rides on new Sonic/ Aveo platform but has been lengthened to make it a small compact car instead of subcompact.
