Russia June 2011: Lada Priora and Hyundai Solaris shine
Car sales in Russia continue on their scrappage scheme-fuelled run, up 40% in June at 246,429 registrations and 56% over the first half of 2011 at 1,235,442 units. The Lada Priora leads the way again at 13,704 units and 5.6%, only the 2nd time in 12 months it holds the pole position, the 7th time in 18 months.
The Lada Kalina stays solid in 2nd place with 13,327 sales, still #1 year-to-date, up 81% at 72,576 units. The Lada Samara climbs onto the podium for the first time in over a year at #3 and 11,584 units, ahead of the Lada 2104-2107, at its lowest since February 2010.
The Hyundai Solaris is the best-selling foreign model for the third month in a row, improving again to a best-ever 10,833 sales and 4.4% share, only 305 units below the 4th Lada. Boosted by the new generation, the Ford Focus is up to #6 and 3.7% ahead of the Renault Logan.
The VW Polo is up 6 spots over May to a shining 11th place with 4,711 sales and 1.9% share. It would also appear that June saw the first 2 units of the new Lada Granta registered in the country. The next few months will be fascinating to follow, to see whether the model actually has the potential to replace both the Samara and the Kalina at the same time…

Hi Matt! Thanks a lot for your answer.
Let me tell you that im June I was in Tunisia for holidays and I rented a Renault Symbol, maybe the best selling car there. I saw lots of them on the roads. We can also notice the amount of Peugeots 407, 206, 207, 306 and 307, Fiats, Ford Mainly fiestas and some focus, Renaults and Citroens C3, C4, C5 and Commercial vehicles. Also lots of 4×4 by Toyota, Bmw, Nissan, Ford and Mitsubishi, lots of Mercedes by very few Audis, hyundais and kias. I only saw 3 alfas 2 147 and a mito. 90% of the cars there runs in petrol because diesel is very expensive and petrol cheap.
Great thanks a lot for the info Miguel!
cheers
Matt
The Focus sold in Russia is the 2005/2011 model or the new one launched in May 2011??
Hi Miguel,
The May 2011 model is already on sale in Russia (See Ford’s Russian website: http://www.ford.ru/Cars/NewFocus) so the June 2011 figure is a mix of the 2005/2011 and 2012 models.
cheers
Matt
I see that the Focus is a sucsess in Russia! Bravo Ford!
