Italy October 2010: Polo #4

Steep drop for the Italian market in October: it is 28% below Oct 09 at 140,944 sales. The year-to-date score is 1,692,472 registrations, -8% over 2009.

The Fiat Punto still leads the way at 7.3% vs 7% in September, ahead of the Fiat Panda at 6.6%. The Punto sales include the Punto Evo, Grande Punto and Punto Classic versions so it safe to say that in actual fact the Fiat Panda has been leading the Italian car sales for most of the last 3 years.

This month’s best performance goes to the VW Polo in 4th at 3%, the highest score so far for this new generation in Italy. Among foreign models, only the Ford Fiesta does better, still sliding down though at 3.6% (3.9% in Sept). The Fiat 500 is down to 5th.

There are a couple of other very strong performers this month: the Nissan Qashqai storms back into the Top 10 in 9th with 3,022 registrations and 2.1%, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta has another fantastic month in 12th with 2,636 units sold, and the Mini is up again in 14th with 2,070 sales and 1.5%, the incremental sales coming fairly and squarely from the Countryman version at 954 registrations alone.
