Egypt 2009: Chevrolet Lanos and Hyundai Elantra up

Egyptian car sales are hit by the recession this year, down 19% at 205,521 registrations. The Chevrolet TFR still leads the way but drops a worrying 33% year-on-year at 15,239 units and 7.4% share. The Lanos, now a Chevrolet, reclaims the success it had as a Daewoo, up 37% to #2 with 14,380 sales and 7%.

Hyundai Elantra in Luxor, Egypt

The Hyundai Verna slows down by 31% at #3 but big sis’ Hyundai Elantra is up 3 spots and 10% to #4 at 10,037 units (4.9%). The Chevrolet Aveo is down one spot to #5 while the Kia Cerato breaks into the Top 10 with a bang, directly at #7 with 6,540 sales and 3.2%. Further down, the Kia Carens appears at #12.

Speranza A516 in Cairo, Egypt January 2009

The Chinese are in shape: Speranza sells better than Toyota in Egypt and is again the 4th most successful passenger brand behind Hyundai, Chevrolet and Kia. The Speranza A516 is #9 for the 3rd year in a row, this time with 5,409 sales and 2.6%, the Speranza Tiggo is the best-selling 4WD in the country at #16 and the A113 is #25.

Zhongxing Landmark Komodo

A newcomer, the Zhongxing Landmark Komodo, ranks #36 with 1,043 sales and 0.5% share.
