Turkey 2008: Renault Symbol threatened by Hyundai Accent

Hyundai Accent and Renault Symbol

Turkish car sales are down 14% in 2008 at 305,998 registrations. The Renault Symbol manages to keep its title of best-selling car in the country but it was very close: down 23% on 2007 in spite of the arrival of the new generation at the end of the year, it sells 17,849 units for a 5.8% market share vs. 17,438 and 5.7%, up 13% for the Hyundai Accent Era… The Renault Megane Sedan drops 26% to #3 with 16,208 sales and 5.3%.

Excellent holds for the Toyota Corolla, down 7% at 15,685 units and 5.1% and the Honda Civic Sedan down just 1% but up 2 spots to #5 with 12,599 sales and 4.1% share. The Opel Corsa at #7 and Fiat Linea at #8 are also up 2 spots on 2007 despite decreasing sales. Notice also the arrival of the Opel Astra Sedan at #11, the VW Jetta at #12 and the Hyundai Getz at #13, up 26%.

Further down the ranking you can see the Fiat Palio at #26, the Hyundai Matrix at #33 and the Renault Megane Hatchback at #36…
