Russia 2007: Market above 2 million units for the first time, Chery up to 1.7% share

The Russian car market is up 20% year-on-year to reach a record 2,344,785 units in 2007, its first time above 2m annual sales. The Lada 2104-7 stays in pole position with 208,472 sales and 8.9% of the market, ahead of the Lada Samara with 187,643 sales and 8% and the Lada 110 at 122,530 units and 5.2% (-29%). All other models are under 4% share: the Ford Focus is the best selling foreign model at 90,396 sales (3.9%), whereas the Lada Kalina lands in 5th position with 78,550 units (3.3%). Excellent performance of the Renault Logan, 6th at 67,844 sales and 2.9%. The new Lada Priora comes in at #8 with 57,823 sales.
Chinese cars are starting to make their mark in Russia, led by the Chery Amulet (aka Cowin), based on the first generation Seat Toledo, ranking #32 with 17,719 sales (+106%). The Chery Tiggo is #46 at 11,067 units, the Chery Fora (aka A5) 62nd at 6,995 sales and the Geely Otaka (aka CK) is #100 (3,721 units). When luxury is involved, bigger is better in Russia: the S Class is the best selling Mercedes at 3,840 sales (#98, +58%), the Infiniti FX is #105 (3,355 units, +478%) and the Cayenne is by far the most popular Porsche with 2,025 sales (+72%, #137).
