Russia 2006: Lada 2104-7 back on top, Ford Focus #4

In 2006, the Lada 2104-7 is the best selling car in Russia with 211,033 sales, ahead of the Lada Samara at 190,491 units and the Lada 110 at 173,378 sales. The 3 models add up to close to 575,000 sales in one year! The Lada Kalina is one degree lower in 5th place with 52,746 sales.

The Ford Focus is the most popular foreign model (#4 at 68,137 sales), followed by the Renault Logan (#6 at 49,323 units) and the Mitsubishi Lancer (#7 at 46,969 sales). The GAZ Volga is 8th with 43,975 units moving hands.

UAZ Hunter

Notice the UAZ Hunter at #30 with 11,132 sales, the UAZ 3151, its predecessor, #38 at 8,588 sales and the UAZ Patriot at #43 and 8,255 units. The Iran Khodro Samand in 59th place with 4,534 sales.

Thailand 2006: Toyota Hilux reclaims market leadership

I only have official figures for July this year in Thailand, so if you have more complete data please make sure to get in touch!

Now that the new generation Toyota Hilux is at full production capacity, the model is back to the #1 position in the Thai market with an estimated 12,200 sales in July. This is nearly 2,000 sales better than the Isuzu D-Max, #2 at 10,281 registrations. The Toyota Fortuner comes in at #4 with 4,100 sales ahead of the Vios at 3,900 sales. The Honda Civic is 5th and its little sister the City is 6th.

Portugal 2005-2006: Opel Astra climbs on top of sales

Complete reshuffle atop the Portuguese models ranking in 2005: 4 years after the Corsa, the Opel Astra takes the lead with 12,928 sales and 6.3% share, ahead of the Renault Megane at 12,166 units (-17%), the Peugeot 307 at 8,211 (-13%), the Opel Corsa at 8,010 (-17%) and the Peugeot 206 at 7,701 (-21%). The new Renault Clio III sells 2,194 units in Nov/Dec!

Renault Clio

In 2006 the Opel Astra keeps the lead even though its sales drop by 13% at 11,306 units. Boosted by the third generation the Renault Clio is back up to #2 with 10,473 sales, up 47%, followed by the Renault Megane at 10,312 units (-15%), the Ford Focus at 6,439 sales (-6%) and the Peugeot 307 (-25%). Notice the Seat Ibiza up to #7.

Lithuania 2006: Opel Astra and VW Passat on top

Small market but very dynamic, Lithuania has the Opel Astra as its best-selling model in 2006 with 508 sales, however just one unit above the VW Passat in 2nd place. The VW Caddy rounds up the podium at 439 units, followed by the Skoda Octavia at 421 and the Ford Focus at 340.

Italy 2006: Fiat Punto close to 10%, Panda up to 6.4%

The Italian car market is up 4% this year at 2,321,321 registrations. The Top 5 best selling models are unchanged, with the Fiat Punto/Grande Punto in the lead at 229,649 sales and 9.9% share, up 32%. This figure is split between 167,414 Grande Puntos and 62,235 Puntos (Bestsellingcars estimation).

Fiat Panda

The Fiat Panda continues to progress year after year, at 148,908 units and 6.4% in 2006. It passed another benchmark this year: after debuting at 4.2% share in October 2003, passing 5% in December 2003 and 6% in July 2005, it was above 7% share for the first time in September 2006.

The Ford Fiesta is very solid at #3 and 3.3%, ahead of the Toyota Yaris and Lancia Ypsilon, both at 2.8%. The Renault Clio is up 5 spots at #8. The Opel Corsa new generation was an instant hit in Italy, already ranking 5th in November. The all new Peugeot 207 peaked at #6 in September, the Opel Meriva was at best-ever #9 in June and the Toyota Aygo delivered an amazing 5th place in December.

Alfa Romeo 159

Other models lodging their best-ever position this year include the BMW 3 Series, #12 in December, the Lancia Musa, #12 in June and the Fiat Croma, #18 in November. The best new entrant in the Top 50 is the Alfa Romeo 159 at #21 with 26,925 sales and 1.2%, peaking at #16 in May.

Estonia 2005-2006: Toyota Corolla in control

One car stands out from the crowd in the Estonian models ranking over the period: the Toyota Corolla. It sells 1,026 units in 2005 and 1,307 in 2006, way above the competition, in the form of the Mazda6 in 2005 at 590 sales and the Skoda Octavia in 2006 at 904 units.

The Toyota Avensis rounds up the podium in 2005 with 579 sales, passing the relay to the Ford Focus in 2006 at 838 units. Other popular models over the period are the Honda CR-V at #6 in 2005, the Honda Civic at #5 in 2006, the Mazda3 at #7 both years the Citroen Berlingo at #8 in 2006.

Ireland 2005-2006: Ford Focus reclaim #1 spot

After being interrupted by the Toyota Corolla in 2004, the Ford Focus reclaims the Irish models ranking leadership in 2005 with sales up a massive 64% to 10,976 units thanks to the 2nd generations now in dealerships. It stays on top in 2006 with 10,251 sales.

Toyota Avensis

Toyota monopolises the rest of the podium with the Avensis up to #2 in 2005 at 8,562 units and #3 in 2006 with 8,087 sales, exchanging positions with the Corolla #3 in 2005 at 8,034 units and #2 in 2006 with 8,237 sales.

There is a Volkswagen in 4th place both years but it’s a different one: the Golf in 2005 at 6,841 units and the Passat in 2006 with 7,523 sales, boosted up by the new generation (+124% on 2005!). The Opel Astra is #6 both years.

Cyprus 2006: Ford Focus takes command

Complete reshuffle atop the models ranking in Cyprus this year: the Ford Focus gains 7 spots and no less than 144% on 2005 to land quite comfortably in pole position with 1,249 sales. It is followed by the Opel Astra at 841 units and the Toyota Corolla, down 2 ranks and 30% to co-#3 with the VW Golf at 654 sales.

The Mazda3 is up 2 spots and 23% to #5 with 643 units, ahead of the Honda Civic (-16%), making the Top 6 100% compact cars! The VW Passat (+118%!), Mercedes E-Class (-28%), Ford Fiesta (+401%!) and Renault Megane (-41%) close the Top 10.

Czech Republic 2005-2006: Fabia, Octavia & Thalia on podium

The Czech best selling models chart is very stable in 2005 and 2006 with the same Top 4. The Skoda Fabia enjoys its 6th and 7th consecutive years at #1 with 36,258 sales in 2005 (28.5% of the market) and 32,914 in 2006 (26.5%), still very imposing scores even though the small Skoda’s share is losing about 2 percentage points each year.

The Skoda Octavia is also still very strong in #2 at 13.7% share in 2005 (17,500 sales) and 11.8% in 2006 (14,608). These two models taking 38-42% of the Czech market, the rest of the chart is very fragmented, with only 4 models at 2%+ share in 2005 and just 2 in 2006. The Renault Thalia (a Clio Sedan) takes the lead among imports at 2.9% in 2005 and 2.2% in 2006, followed by the Hyundai Getz, 4th in both years.

The Peugeot 206 slides down to 5th in 2005 and 6th in 2006 whereas the Dacia Logan delivers an impressive 6th position in 2005 for its first full year of sales in the country. Notice the 10th position of the Skoda Roomster in 2006 at 1,731 sales and 1.4%.

Slovakia 2005-2006: Fabia, Octavia & 206 lead, Suzuki up

Down 1% in 2005 at 56,916 registrations, the Slovak car market rebounds in 2006, up 4% at 59,084 units sold. The podium is unchanged for the 3rd and 4th consecutive year: the Skoda Fabia leads with almost identical scores during the two years: 11,855 sales (20.8%) in 2005 and 11,835 (20.0%) in 2006).

The Skoda Octavia is #2 at 8.7% in 2005 but down to 7.4% in 2006, followed by the Peugeot 206 at 4.1% in 2005 and 3.5% in 2006. Excellent performance of the Suzuki Ignis in 4th position in 2005 at 4.1% of the Slovak market, but down to #10 (1.9%) in 2006. Suzuki improves its presence in the country, placing the Swift #9 (2%) and the SX4 #18 (1.3%) in 2006.
