Media post: Subaru Outback Makes Navigating Riverbeds and Fishing Lakes Easier

The Subaru Outback is proving to be a popular choice amongst anglers. With symmetrical all-wheel drive, generous ground clearance, and roof-loading, it’s a popular choice for driving to remote riverbeds and accessing lakes.

The Subaru Outback Appeals to Anglers

When the rear seats are folded down, the Subaru Outback has 75.6 cubic feet of cargo space. The Wilderness trim in particular makes navigating rocky paths easy, and it’s also suited to driving to remote riverbeds. The mechanical design makes it easier to traverse uneven or slippery terrain, and the trunk has plenty of room for longer rod cases and waders.

The 2026 Outback features an integrated crossbar that can fold across the roof when needed, allowing for a kayak carrier or a rod storage system. As the US-market Onyx Edition offers StarTex upholstery, it’s a practical choice for those who have damp or muddy clothing. The X-MODE and Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive mean that driving down slippery slopes isn’t difficult. The Wilderness model has 9.5 inches of clearance, compared to the 8.7 inches on the standard model, and there’s also a front skid plate.

Fishing is Experiencing a Boom Right Now

Modern media has a huge part to play in the recent fishing boom. On Spotify, The Carp Fishing Podcast gives carp anglers the chance to gain expert tips and advice. River Monsters covers unusual freshwater fish, and The Grand Fishing Adventure follows Ali Hamidi and Bobby Zamora as they try to catch huge fish from various locations.

In iGaming, fishing is also a big theme. The Fishin Frenzy slot game is an example, as the franchise now has over 25 titles. Featuring rods, lines, and different species of fish, the game’s popularity shows jsut how popular this pastime is.

The latest statistics support the fishing boom as well. 57.9 million Americans fished in 2024, and 21.3 million were women. It’s no surprise that practical vehicles like the Subaru Outback are selling well, with 92,108 Outbacks sold in the US in August 2026 alone.

2026 also saw Subaru experience its best month ever for electric car sales, selling 2,053 in April. The Subaru Solterra moved 1,128 units, which is an increase of 18.9% compared to the previous year. The brand also released two new models, the Trailseeker and Uncharted. The 2026 Trailseeker is a bigger, more powerful off-road vehicle that combines the versatility of an SUV with electric charging capabilities. The Uncharted is smaller and compact, making it more suited to city driving and everyday errands.

The Trailseeker model might be another option for avid anglers, having the same symmetrical all-wheel drive build as the Subaru Outback, and 8.7 inches of clearance, making it suitable for off-road tracks. It’s certainly interesting to see that, as Suburu moves forward and puts a big focus on off-road capabilities with its latest vehicles, it’s also investing in electric models that offer greener charging capabilities without compromising outdoor adventures or the car’s ability to navigate difficult terrain. For anglers, this translates to more off-road choices that are better for the environment.
