Media post: How Modern In-Car Technology Gives Drivers and Passengers Access to Streaming, Gaming and Online Entertainment

The screen inside a car used to have a narrow job: show the radio station, navigation route or reversing camera. In newer vehicles, that role is changing quickly. Passenger displays, built-in streaming apps, cloud gaming and mobile connectivity are turning the cabin into another place where people can continue the entertainment they already use at home.
The important part is not simply adding a bigger display. Carmakers are now designing separate digital experiences for drivers, front passengers and people in the rear, with different rules for what each person can see and use while the vehicle is moving.
The Car Is Becoming Another Connected Screen
This broader shift also changes where online services can be accessed. On a personal device, Casino Spino belongs to the same wider ecosystem of connected entertainment that now follows users between phones, tablets and other screens. Inside a vehicle, however, the more important question is not whether content is technically available, but whether it can be used without distracting the driver.
Premium carmakers are already treating that separation seriously. The 2026 BMW 7 Series offers a dedicated front-passenger display for streaming, gaming and music, while rear passengers can use a 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen with apps and AirConsole games.
That makes the car less of an isolated entertainment system and more of an extension of devices people already own.
Your Phone Can Now Become the Controller
Audi’s approach shows how little extra hardware is actually required. AirConsole became available in selected Audi models in 2025, allowing passengers to launch games through the vehicle’s infotainment system and use their smartphones as controllers after scanning a QR code. A modern setup can therefore combine several functions without carrying separate devices:
– a built-in passenger screen for video or games;
– a smartphone that doubles as a controller;
– the vehicle’s internet connection for streaming;
– cloud services that handle demanding games remotely.
The advantage is obvious on longer journeys. Passengers do not need a console, a separate monitor and a bag full of accessories just to play something casually.
The same idea also works when a vehicle is parked. Charging stops in electric cars create natural periods when someone may want to watch part of a film, play a short game or continue content they started elsewhere.
Passenger Entertainment Creates a Safety Problem
A screen beside the driver creates an obvious risk if moving images constantly attract attention. Manufacturers are therefore developing systems that allow the passenger to use entertainment without giving the driver the same view.
Audi uses Active Privacy Mode on compatible passenger displays. It acts as a digital curtain, allowing the passenger to play while the car is moving while blocking the content from the driver’s view.
BMW takes a slightly different approach. Its newer passenger displays use an interior camera to detect driver distraction and can automatically dim the screen if the system believes the driver is looking at it instead of the road.
These features matter more than simply adding another app. In-car entertainment only makes sense if it remains secondary to driving.
Cloud Gaming Changes What a Car Needs
Mercedes-Benz takes the idea further with the VLE, combining a 31.3-inch 8K rear display with 40+ apps, streaming services and Boosteroid cloud gaming. Because games are processed remotely, the car does not need console-level hardware.
The bigger shift is continuity. Drivers and passengers increasingly expect to open familiar services and continue a film, playlist or game without treating the car as a separate digital world.
