China retail June 2026: Leapmotor, Xiaomi, Qiyuan defy sinking market (-23.8%), Tesla Model Y #1
Qiyuan sales are up 81.4% year-on-year in June.
Today we can share with you All brands and All models retail sales data for China in June. The market continues to implode at -23.8% year-on-year to 1,608,269 units, with the H1 tally now down -20% to 8,405,090. BSCB is the only non-Chinese medium to cover both wholesales (ex-factory shipments) and retail sales data for China so you can get the most complete picture of the largest new car market in the world. Retail sales tend to give a more authentic view of the market as they roughly correspond to registrations by end-customers and are more difficult to artificially boost with exports which can sometimes be the case for wholesales data.
Leapmotor breaks its volume record in June.
BYD (-42.3%) freefalls once again and endures the steepest YoY drop in the Top 10. Toyota (-15.8%) surprises and contains its fall to a lower rate than the market and ascends to 2nd place overall, toppling Geely (-27.9%). Volkswagen (-34.3%) is stuck in 4th position but ranks #3 year-to-date above Toyota. Leapmotor (+70.9%) is the only Top 10 manufacturer in positive and breaks its volume record for the 2nd month in a row, lifting it to just below 70,000 units. Tesla (-14.8%) and Mercedes (-19.4%) also resist somewhat whereas Chery (-41.8%), Wuling (-39.3%) and BMW (-27.9%) all skid. Below, notice Xiaomi (+36.8%), Qiyuan (+81.4%), Fang Cheng Bao (+49.4%), Zeekr (+95.6%), Deepal (+21.1%) and NIO (+72.9%) all defying the negative market wth splendid YoY upticks.
The Tesla Model Y is the best-selling vehicle in China in June.
Looking at the models ranking, the Tesla Model Y (-13.2%) climbs to #1 both for the month and over H1, with the Geely Xingyuan (-21.1%) in tow. The Leapmotor A10 is up one more rank to a record third place for its 4th month in market: a true instant blockbuster. The new Li i6 is also up one spot on May to land at #4 and ranks #3 year-to-date. The Xiaomi SU7 (-2.6%) is down two ranks to round out the Top 5 ahead of the new Fang Cheng Bao Tai 7 back up 8 spots to #6. The Qiyuan Q05 (+980.6%) soars to #6 and smashes its volume record at 19,192. The Sealion 05 (+13.3%) is BYD’s best-seller at #8, with the Yuan UP (+25%) also making it inside the Top 10. The Xiaomi YU7 (+542.7%) is back up 22 ranks to #20 and still ranks #5 year-to-date thanks to a tremendous start of the year (it ranked #1 YTD at end February).
