Denmark May 2026: BEVs at 78.7% share, Tesla and Toyota shoot up
The Toyota C-HR+ is an instant blockbuster in Denmark.
The Danish new car market advances 6.3% year-on-year in May to 19,092 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 12.8% to 79,549. According to Mobility Denmark, BEVs account for a stunning 78.7% share in May and 80.1% year-to-date. Toyota (+53.7%) leaps back into the brands top spot it holds year-to-date, dislodging Skoda (-0.8%) just as Tesla (+136.2%) more than doubles its sales YoY to reach #3 with 9.2% share vs. #8 and 5.6% so far this year. Denmark is one of the rare markets where Toyota’s BEVs are all successful. Citroen (+247.2%) delivers the biggest YoY gain in the Top 10 at #10, with Renault (+26.8%) and Mercedes (+19.2%) also in outstanding shape. Mazda (+139.1%), MG (+94.9%), BYD (+81.9%) and Xpeng (+81.2%) make themselves noticed below.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y (+52.8%) tops the charts for the first time since last December but still ranks #4 year-to-date vs. #3 over the Full Year 2025. The Skoda Enyaq (+245.5%) stays in 2nd place above the Elroq (-39.9%) still #1 YTD. The new Toyota C-HR+ confirms it is an instant blockbuster in Denmark, ranking 4th for the month and 7th YTD. The Tesla Model 3 (+974.6%) completes the Top 5 and ranks #10 YTD vs. #27 over the Full Year 2025. The Xpeng G6 (+87.8%) and VW ID.4 (-44.2%) ensure the Top 7 is entirely composed of BEVs. The Citroen C5 Aircross is the odd one out at #8 with the Audi Q4 e-Tron (stable), Toyota Urban Cruiser, bZ4X (+116.6%) and VW ID.Buzz (+17.7%) making it 11 BEVs in the Top 12.
