Chile May 2026: Mitsubishi L200 #1, Riddara RD6 at world best

The Riddara RD6 is inside the Chilean Top 30 in May.

New light vehicle sales in Chine edge up 0.5% year-on-year in May to 24,449 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 4.7% to 126,998. The Top 4 best-selling carmakers all beat the market: Toyota (+8.7%) is #1 with 8% share, followed by Suzuki (+2.1%), Hyundai (+19.4%) and Kia (+2.3%). In contrast Chevrolet (-15%), Ford (-8.7%) and GWM (-8.6%) all struggle below. Changan (+33.1%) and Mitsubishi (+32.7%) deliver the biggest YoY gains in the Top 10 while just outside, MG (+42.2%) and Volkswagen (+110%) do even better. All in all, the 35 Chinese marques present in Chile add up to 34.9% share vs. 30.8% a year ago thanks to sales up 13.9%.

Over in the models charts, the Mitsubishi L200 (+41.5%) lodges its second win of the year and third in the past 12 months and returns to the #1 spot year-to-date in the process, knocking the GWM Poer (-22.6%) down to #2. The Toyota Hilux (+6.1%) is in solid shape at #2 while the Suzuki Fronx (+47.3%) soars to #3, the nameplate’s first ever Chilean podium finish. The Hyundai Grand i10 (+34.1%) is up 17 spots on last month to close out the Top 5. Below, the MG ZX (+125%), Suzuki Swift (+118.5%) and Kia Sonet (+63.2%) make themselves noticed. Finally the Riddara RD6 pickup breaks into the Top 30 at #29 which is a world best.

  1. I have never heard of Riddara, but I like the way it looks. I would be happy to drive my family in such a practical pickup. It looks like car, normal size and has huge loading space. Pity they don’t sell such small vehicles in Europe.

    1. It’s called “Radar”, it’s a sub-brand of Geely, but it has to be renamed to “Riddara” for some reason. In Mexico Chery cars are called “Chirey”, maybe for the same reason. I think the original brand names have meanings in Spanish which may cause disadvantages at selling cars. Like in the old joke: the Chevy Nova had to be renamed in Spanish-language territories because its name meant “it doesn’t go” 😀
