Portugal Full Year 2025: Renault Clio snaps last minute first win in 5 years

The Renault Clio is #1 in Portugal for the first time since 2020.

225,039 new cars hit Portuguese roads in 2025, up 7.3% year-on-year. Peugeot (+0.2%) is stable and holds onto the brands pole position despite seeing its share thaw to 9.6%. Renault (+19.8%) climbs back up to #2 with 8% share (and 14.7% in December). It overtakes Mercedes (+6.7%) and Dacia (+7.6%). BMW (+4.9%) Volkswagen (+9.9%) and Toyota (-0.7%) follow like in 2024. No other Top 10 member beats the market with Tesla (-22.3%) slipping out of it to #11. BYD improves a further 94.1% to #16 with 2.7% share, peaking at #9 in November. MG (+73.2%), Jeep (+48.6%), Skoda (+32.4%), Opel (+23.9%) and Cupra (+20.5%) also shine below.

Model-wise, thanks to a bumper December result (+201.4% to 8.2% share), the Renault Clio (+28.3%) snaps a last minute pole position with 3.7% of the market. It was #1 in March, October, November and December. This is the Clio’s first annual win in Portugal since 2020. As a reminder it topped the charts for 8 consecutive years from 2013 to 2020. The Peugeot 2008 (-0.8%) stays in 2nd place (#1 in May, June and July) while the Dacia Sandero (-14%), leader last year and #1 in January and August, falls to #3. Thanks to the new generation, the Dacia Duster (+40.7%) climbs five spots to #4 just as the Citroen C3 (+14.3%) rounds out the Top 5, one spot better than in 2024. The Tesla Model 3 (-35.4%) crashes to #8 but still managed a top spot in September.
