Austria Full Year 2025: Skoda Octavia back in charge, sales up 12.3%

Excellent year for new car sales in Austria, up 12.3% year-on-year to 284,978 units. Volkswagen (+12.8%) follows the market to an unchanged 14.2% share, while Skoda (+17.9%) beats it to 10.6%. BMW (+1.1%) and Audi (+8.7%) ensure the Top 4 is identical to last year. Dacia (+22.8%) delivers the biggest uptick in the Top 9 and ascends four spots to #5, distancing Mercedes (+8.2%), Hyundai (+13.7%), Seat (+3.3%) and Toyota (+1.7%). Cupra (+66.9%) surges up 5 ranks to break into the Top 10 at #10. Notice also BYD (+74.8%) up to #15, Citroen (+51.6%), Opel (+37.5%) and MG (+36.2%) all posting very satisfying lifts.
Model-wise, this year the Skoda Octavia (+0.2%) reclaims the top spot off the VW Golf (-22.2%) in complete freefall. This is the 5th time the Octavia is the best-seller in Austria after 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023. The BMW X1 (+8.3%) climbs up one spot on last year to a best-ever #3, keeping in mind the iX1 BEV accounts for 46% of its total volume. The Seat Ibiza (+6.8%) is also up one rank while the Toyota Yaris/Cross (+9.3%) is up three to #5. #3 in 2024, the Tesla Model Y (-20.6%) dives to #7 followed by the Skoda Karoq (+16.8%) in outstanding shape. The VW Polo (+27.3%), Seat Leon (+85.1%) and BYD Seal (+31.7%) also shine below. The Dacia Bigster is the best-selling new launch at #16 just ahead of the Skoda Elroq at #17. Note the Bigster peaked at #5 in November. Notice also the Mitsubishi Colt (a rebadged Renault Clio) up to #2 in December but failing to enter the annual Top 20.
