Sweden July 2025: Skoda scores first ever podium finish
The Skoda Kodiaq is up to a record 2nd place in Sweden in July.
17,684 new cars found a buyer in Sweden in July, a solid +8.2% year-on-year improvement. This way, the year-to-date volume is up 6.7% to 158,660. Rechargeable cars reach 62.3% share vs. 59.6% a year ago and 61.4% so far this year. 6,172 BEVs were registered (+11.9%) for a 34.9% share vs. 33.8% in July 2024 and 25.2% year-to-date (+17.5%). PHEVs soar 14.6% to 4,840 and 27.4% share vs. 25.8% last year and 26.2% year-to-date (+18.3%).
Homegrown leader Volvo (-5.7%) can’t catch up with the market growth but stays on top of the brands ranking with 15.3% share vs. 18% so far this year. In contrast Volkswagen (+40.3%) rallies back up but can only muster a 13.8% share vs. 14.3% YTD. At #3, Skoda (+104.7%) is in even greater shape at 8.7% share, well above the 6.3% it commands YTD. This is simply the Czech brand’s first appearance on the Swedish podium, eclipsing its previous best of #4 reached just last month, and highest ever market share by far, beating the 6.6% hit last March. Kia (-3.6%) is up one spot to #4 and Mercedes (-8.6%) down two to #5. Cupra (+191%) breaks into the Top 10 for the second time after last April at #10. Tesla implodes: -85.8%.
Model-wise, the Volvo XC60 (-19.7%) remains the faraway leader despite a steep year-on-year fall. The Skoda Kodiaq (+181.1%) surges 9 spots on June to a best-ever 2nd place, with the Volvo EX/XC40 (+40.8%) also in great shape and the Volvo EX30 (+6.1%) more discreet. The VW ID.7 (+227.3%) confirms it is a blockbuster in Sweden at #5. The new Kia EV3 is up one rank to #6, distancing the VW T-Roc (+65.2%) and Fiat Ducato (+52.9%). The VW ID.4 (-37.1%) is in great difficulty at #9 while the Polestar 4 (+1185.7%), up to a record #5 last month, is down to a still impressive 10th place. Below the EV3, the Renault 5 is the 2nd best-selling recent launch at #29 (+41), distancing the Volvo EX90 (#31) and Cupra Tavascan (#34).
