China new models July 2025: Chery Fulwin A9L, Audi A5L Sportback arrive
Now that July wholesales data has been explored, it’s time to detail the latest launches on the Chinese market. This month is quiet, with only tree new models entering the charts, 1 of them a foreigner. To fully understand the scope of the Chinese market, make sure you consult our Exclusive Guide to all 188 active Chinese Brands.
1. Chery Fulwin A9L (4,330 sales)
The Fulwin (in Chinese Fengyun) is a Chery sub-brand revived to focus on New Energy Vehicles. This A9L is a PHEV coming at 5,018 mm in length with a 3,000 mm wheelbase and a 0.23Cd drag coefficient. This is a global model, with export ambitions – Chery has been the #1 Chinese exporter for many years. Built on Chery’s hybrid E-platform, the A9L is a fastback with a sealed grille, full-width LED lighting and semi-hidden door handles. Inside, the cabin focuses on comfort with 13-layer zero-gravity seats, generous rear knee room (165 mm), dual panoramic sunroofs, and upscale materials—such as suede trims and knurled switches—developed using feedback from millions of users.
Powered by the advanced Kunpeng Super Hybrid CDM 6.0 system, the Fulwin A9L combines a 1.5T petrol engine with a 33.7 kWh Blade-type LFP battery: the AWD version delivers up to 470 kW and 854 Nm, with an electric-only CLTC range of 260 km, and an impressive combined range over 2,500 km. Fast charging from 30% to 80% just takes about 14 minutes and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 4 seconds. The A9L is priced from 149,900 to 207,900 yuan (17,800-24,700€ or US$20,900-29,000), and will compete with the likes of the BYD Han (165,800-235,800 yuan), Exeed Exlantix ES (152,800-299,000 yuan) and Geely Galaxy Starshine 8 (125,800-165,800 yuan). The A9L generated 50,287 confirmed orders within its first 24 hours on the market, so we have high hopes for its commercial success.

2. BYD Sealion 06 (3,129 sales)
Yet another new launch from market leader BYD, which endured a surprising -17.1% YoY loss in July. The Sealion 06 is a mid-size 4,810 mm crossover with a 2,820 mm wheelbase that forms part of the popular Ocean Series. It slots above the Sealion 05 and below the Sealion 07 in an increasingly crowded lineup. The 06 uses a typical BYD design with split headlights, streamlined intake zones, a wavy rear light bar, and semi-recessed door handles. Its interior is equipped with a 15.6″ floating infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, flat-bottom steering wheel, wireless phone charging, dual cupholders and even a mini built-in fridge capable of holding four bottles, with rotary dial to control the temperature.
The Sealion 06 is available in BEV and PHEV variants that look exactly the same. The EV versions offer up to 78.72 kWh for the battery, 180 kW RWD and 605 km CLTC range while the PHEVs combine a 74 kW 1.5L engine with a 160 kW electric motor that deliver electric-only ranges of up to 170 km and CLTC combined ranges of up to 1,670 km. The 06 embarks BYD’s God’s Eye driver assistance/self-driving system. The version available is the C tier, the most basic, which equips vehicles under 200,000 yuan. The 06 is priced from 139,800 to 163,800 yuan (16,600-19,500€ or US$19,500-22,800), compared with 117,800-137,800 for the Sealion 05 and 189,800-239,800 for the 07.

3. Audi A5L Sportback (749 sales)
First foreign launch in China in a while, the Audi A5L Sportback is manufactured by the SAIC-Audi joint venture. It is 4,903 mm long with a 2,922 mm wheelbase. The A5L is the first combustion-engine vehicle to integrate Huawei’s advanced ADAS technology. How quaint to have an ICE launch these days. Are Western carmakers really that of touch? More on the ADAS below. The model is built on Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) and powered by the fifth-generation EA888 engine paired with a mild-hybrid system. Capable of 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, it delivers around 200 kW (268 hp) and leverages Porsche-derived variable turbine geometry turbocharging.
The vehicle is equipped with Huawei’s “Qiankun” ADAS—complete with two LiDAR sensors, along with a suite of cameras, radars, and ultrasonic sensors—enabling advanced semi-autonomous features like urban/highway navigation, parking assistance, and dynamic obstacle avoidance. It’s all good and well, but we suspect all the Chinese customers are waiting for is the launch of the first model of the new AUDI EV brand, unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show last April: the E5 Sportback. The A5L received 9,800 pre-orders during its launch evening, far below the most anticipated Chinese models.
Priced between 255,900 and 369,900 yuan (30,500-44,000€ or US$35,700-51,600), the A5L Sportback will compete with the BMW 3 Series (319,900-399,900 yuan) for example, but undercuts is sibling the A4L (289,800-362,800 yuan).

The BYD Sealion 06 looks hideous. The Audi looks very nice, the Chery looks also okay.
Audi looks good, but why 3 displays? That won’t beat the competition. I would focus on sustainability, honest mechanics and a lifespan of about 20-25 years. Customers will appreciate it in the long term.
Audi buyers don’t care much about reliability. This is actually great for Audi because they can fix all this technology when it breaks and charge a lot for it. For example, the Porsche Taycan is one of the worst cars in terms of reliability, but if you search the forums for owner opinions, you’ll see that they would still buy it despite the problems. I owned a Porsche Taycan for a few months so I looked into this.
Beautiful, reliable and great cars for a cheap price
