Finland May 2025: Renault up 247.7%, pushes Clio to #4

The Renault Clio is up to #4 in Finland in May.

After edging into positive territory for the first time in 2025 in April, the Finnish new car market falls back in negative in May at -11.3% year-on-year to 6,700 registrations. The year-to-date volume is off -7.7% to 29,283. Toyota (-32.3%) holds onto the brands leadership with 15.2% share and despite a drastic year-on-year fall. Volkswagen (+23.6%) and Skoda (+22.2%) on the other hand are both in excellent shape and conclude the podium. Skoda even overtakes Volvo (-45.9%), in complete freefall this month, to rank #3 year-to-date also. Renault (+247.7%) is without contest the best performer of the month with sales more than tripling year-on-year. The French carmaker climbs to #7 and 4.6% share for the month vs. #13 and 2.2% so far this year. Ford (+58.5%) also impresses at #10. Below, notice Polestar (+213.3%), Porsche (+164.7%), Seat (+65.1%), Mitsubishi (+57.4%) and Cupra (+51.4%) all sporting fantastic results. On the other hand Tesla (-51%) and BYD (-83.6%) implode.

Model-wise, the Toyota Yaris (-31.8%) lodges its first monthly win in Finland since December 2022 but skids down, as do the Toyota Yaris Cross (-23.8%), still #1 year-to-date, and the Toyota Corolla (-41.5%). The Renault Clio surges from out of nowhere directly into 4th place, its best since December 2019 when it ranked #1. The VW ID.7 (+267.3%) continues to soar, becoming the brand’s best-seller in Finland at #5 with 2.9% share vs. #9 and 2% year-to-date. The Volvo XC60 (+20.7%) is solid at #7 while the new Skoda Elroq is down one spot on April to #8 but climbs to #17 year-to-date. The VW Taigo (+812.5%) lodges its first Top 10 finish since last November at #10.
